Tooth Extraction in Alpharetta GA
We’re committed to helping you keep your teeth for a lifetime. With the wide array of services offered at Alpharetta Creek Restorative Dentistry, we will almost always try to save a damaged tooth. Sometimes, however, it may be in the best interest of your overall oral health to remove the tooth.
There are several cases where Dr. Kai Liang may determine that extracting a tooth is the best option. We may need to extract a tooth because it’s severely decayed, damaged by advanced periodontal disease, or compromised in such a way that it cannot be repaired. In other cases, a tooth may need to be removed because it’s poorly positioned in the mouth (such as wisdom teeth) or we are preparing you for orthodontic treatment or complete dentures.
Your Comfort Is Our Priority
Your complete comfort is our first priority. If fear or anxiety are concerns for you, please let us know beforehand. Millions of people are apprehensive about dental visits, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. When you share your concerns, you’re helping us to take the steps necessary to ensure that your experience is anxiety-free and as comfortable as possible.
The tooth extraction process is straightforward. First we’ll make sure you’re settled in and comfortable before we begin. Next, Dr. Kai will numb your mouth with a local anesthetic to eliminate pain at the site of the extraction. The unwanted tooth is then carefully removed. If at any time during the procedure you feel uncomfortable, we ask that you please let us know right away.
Before you leave our office, we will provide you with a list of post-procedure instructions. In general, we advise that when you rinse, you do so very gently. It is also best not to try to drink through a straw, and definitely don't smoke for at least 24 hours after your procedure. Any of these actions can cause the clot that protects the site to come lose and delay healing.
It's important to keep brushing and flossing as you normally would after your procedure. Just don't disturb the teeth around the site of your extraction.
Tooth Replacement Options
Replacing a missing tooth is important for several reasons. A replacement tooth improves your appearance and prevents surrounding teeth from moving out of proper alignment.
Long before we perform your extraction, we’ll talk to you about options for replacing the extracted tooth once healing is complete. Everyone’s case is unique, so we’ll explore all your options, including bridges, partial dentures, and dental implants.
