Are porcelain veneers permanent?
When asked, most people would say there’s something they’d like to change about their smile. Porcelain veneers can solve many of these concerns but there are a few things you need to know before you decide if they’re right for you.
When we place veneers at Alpharetta Creek Restorative Dentistry, we need to remove a very thin layer of existing dental enamel. This is done to provide a space for the veneer to fit seamlessly and to create a secure bond with the enamel. Tooth enamel does not grow back, so once this is done, the process cannot be reversed.
Porcelain veneers are durable and stain resistant, but they may still need to be replaced eventually. Their longevity depends largely upon how well you take care of your oral health. Being diligent about your oral hygiene routine will extend the life of your veneers and help them last a very long time.
It’s also important to avoid biting into hard, crunchy foods that can chip or crack the veneer. Teeth grinding and clenching can also damage the veneer and affect its lifespan.
As part of your regular checkups, Dr. Kai will examine the condition of your veneers to make sure they are intact. If we detect any problems, we may recommend replacing the veneer.
