Any sudden tooth pain is an indication that something is going on with your oral health and you need to see a dentist to find out what the problem is and if you need treatment. If your teeth are sensitive to hot and cold temperatures, the solution may be as simple as a dental filling, or you may require a root canal at our Alpharetta dental office.

We know the thought of a root canal sends most people into a panic. It is unfortunate that this important treatment has such a bad reputation. We must perform a root canal to save the tooth and relieve the pain that’s a result of the infection.

A root canal can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. Today we perform root canals using state-of-the-art instruments and equipment to make the procedure comfortable and efficient. We understand your concerns, so we do everything possible to ensure your comfort.

Any of the three problems listed below are an indication that you most likely need treatment:

  1. If you have a sensitivity to extreme temperatures that lasts longer than 30 seconds, The American Association of Endodontists suggests seeing your dentist as soon as possible.
  2. Sudden pain in a tooth that intensifies over time and does not respond to over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen means that you may need root canal treatment
  3. If you notice a raised bump on your gum (abscess), your tooth may be infected and require a root canal.

If you notice any of the above, we recommend that you contact our Alpharetta dental office as soon as possible. These symptoms do not necessarily mean that you need a root canal, but the only way you will know for sure is by giving our office a call to arrange an appointment.
